eproSchools

There is little high-quality information on physical activity, physical inactivity and dietary habits of young people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. As a result, there are only a limited number of public health and educational interventions specifically designed for this population group. The ePro-Schools project, an e-platform for health promotion in schools, will fill both knowledge gaps using state-of-the-art technology.

ePro-Schools will analyse high-quality epidemiological data to identify the determinants of physical activity, physical inactivity and dietary habits and how these lifestyle habits relate to the physical and mental health of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

In addition, ePro-Schools will co-design, pilot and evaluate an evidence-based modular eHealth intervention platform to promote physical activity and healthy eating and reduce time spent on sedentary behaviour.
An in-depth co-creation process, including a marketing survey and focus groups with young people, teachers, school leaders and policy makers, as well as the adaptation of previous interventions by consortium members, will support the development of the platform.

The ePro-Schools platform will include modules for young people and their parents, teachers and school administrators. Although the platform will be implemented in schools, it will also include content that can be implemented outside of schools.

By analysing register and cohort data, we will identify schools where young people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds live in order to conduct a randomised controlled trial in these schools to test the ePro-Schools platform.

Using implementation science methodology, ePro-Schools will work with policy makers and stakeholders to develop transferable, evidence-based practices and methodologies and guidelines for scaling up the platform and inform practitioners, policy makers and the wider public.
