Requirements

Please be aware that we do not assess the eligibility for our program outside the online application period. All documents needed to assess your eligibility will be requested during the online application.

 

Degree and credit requirements

At the time of admission (not application) the applicant must have finished a Bachelor’s study program of at least 3 years with an equivalent of 180 credit points according to ECTS (European Credit Transfer System). Concerning the GPA requirements, an average of 2.4 or better on the German grading scale is necessary to be eligible for the program. Foreign grades can be converted to German grades using the "Bavarian formula".

Subject requirements

The Bachelor’s program of the applicant must have a strong focus on life sciences, chemistry, mathematics, physics, medicine and/or psychology. Competences in the following subjects are mandatory: cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry. Competences and experience in laboratory and research practice as well as in physiology are strongly desired. Please find some further details here.

 

Language requirements

Proficiency in English language is essential since all courses will be held in English. Exams, reports, and the Master thesis are required to be written in English.The applicant must bring forward one of the tests listed below at the time of application.

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of >590 paper-based, or 240 computer-based or 95 internet-based
  • International English Language Test System (IELTS) with a score of at least 6.5
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)

 

Other significant proofs of English proficiency, such as a certificate from the former university, are also recognized in exceptional cases.

Not recognized equivalent: English-Abitur, English written bachelor thesis.

Further recommendations

The acquisition of awards and fellowships during the applicant’s Bachelor studies and authorships in peer-reviewed papers have a positive impact. Particular attention is paid to a meaningful motivation letter.
