“Here, There and Everywhere: Understanding the Impact of Cardiovascular Disease across the World”

given by Prof Martin O’Flaherty from the Department of Public Health Policy, University of Liverpool.

In his lecture, Prof O’Flaherty will discuss why it is important to understand the impact of cardiovascular disease, particularly if we want to reduce the unequal burden of cardiovascular disease globally.  Work in more than 20 countries will illustrate what we know about what makes cardiovascular disease spread in a population and, importantly, what are the best strategies to tackle it. And how these insights can help to prevent other diseases, like cancer or dementia

Martin O’Flaherty is professor in epidemiology at the Department of Public Health Policy, University of Liverpool

Martin’s career span two countries and two very different areas of work. After more than 20 years working in the frontline as a non-academic- busy clinician in Argentina, he moved to the UK. Since 2006, he brought his passion, creativity and energy to the world-leading research on prevention of the unequal burden of Chronic disease based in the Department of Public Health Policy. From Japan to Argentina, From Canada to Tunisia, From Iceland to Saudi Arabia, he has developed innovative approaches to help us understand how to tackle the challenges that chronic diseases are for our society
