We are hiring
09.08.2021We are looking for enthusiastic young scientists (f/m/d) with a background in Life Sciences who are interested to pursue PhD projects in the field of tumor biology
The Mildred Scheel Early Career Center Würzburg and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology are looking for enthusiastic young scientists (f/m/d) with a background in Life Sciences who are interested to pursue PhD projects in one of the following groups:
- Carolin Kastner studies liver metastases of colon carcinoma. The project aims to identify factors that are required for the growth of colon tumor cells, but not of the surrounding normal liver tissue.
- Gabriele Büchel works on improving therapies for a childhood cancer, neuroblastoma. The project analyses the mechanisms that enable neuroblastoma cells to escape surveillance by the immune system and searches for strategies to induce immune cells to attack neuroblastoma tumors.
- Martin Eilers studies biochemical mechanisms that control the growth of human tumors and develops new strategies for tumor therapy. The project focuses on identifying critical interaction partners of the MYC oncoprotein, which are required for MYC proteins to drive the growth of pancreatic tumors.
Applications can be submitted until September 15th 2021. Projects shall start as soon as possible (the starting point can be negotiated).
We offer:
The projects will be localized in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, which is part of the Biocenter of the University Würzburg. The Biocenter has a vibrant research environment with multiple groups working on central questions of cell and molecular biology. We are also part of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Mainfranken.
- We offer a highly interactive work environment, with research groups working on basic mechanisms of transcription, RNA biogenesis and protein ubiquitylation as well as on advanced genetic tumor models and therapeutic strategies for multiple tumors.
- Full-time appointment, competitive salary according to TV-L, 65%, fixed-term for an initial period of three years, extension possible
- PhD program as part of the enrolment in the Graduate School of Life Sciences, with hands-on supervision, intellectual support
- Access to multiple core facilities and training in advanced technologies
- Würzburg is a thriving university town with many bars, local recreation areas and travel links.
Apply if you have:
- M.Sc. or an equivalent qualification in Biology, Biochemistry or a related field
- Previous experience in molecular biology or in protein biochemistry
- Strong interest in tumor biology
- The working language is English, knowledge of the German language is not required.
To apply, please submit your CV with references and a one-page letter of motivation as single pdf file via email to czolbe_m@ukw.de. Prior publications or international experience are welcome, but no prerequisite. The deadline for the application is September 15th, 2021. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter. We welcome applications from suitably qualified people regardless of race, gender or disability. The University and the University hospital aim to increase the proportion of female employees, therefore applications from qualified women are particularly welcome.
